Now that the kids are out of school and you have a little more time on your hands, treat yourself to a fun-filled getaway. If you’re in Sacramento or living near the area, one of the best places to visit is Amador County. This charming wine region is just 40 minutes to an hour away, offering a relaxed and affordable alternative to Napa Valley.

Personally, I am a fan of Amador Wine Country due to its unique and laid-back atmosphere. It is not as expensive as Napa, and you can go in your shorts and flip-flops while having a great time, not to mention great wine as well. The wineries around the area have free tastings, offering a variety of wines like Zinfandels, Barberas, and blends that will surely suit your taste.

Aside from those, there are tons of things that make Amador Wine Country special and enjoyable. Some of my favorite wineries to go to are:

1. Andis Winery. It is a beautiful spot to enjoy the outdoors. They have food trucks for lunch and bocce ball courts. Additionally, they host dinners in the vineyard, which has a unique atmosphere that makes the experience special. Don’t forget to check their wine selection and take a few bottles home with you.

2. Helwig Winery. If you enjoy live music, Helwig has an amazing concert lineup during the summer. They have beautiful grounds, and if you are a member, you can go take some of your friends and go to their wine cave and have a private wine tasting for free. In addition to that, they also have a gift shop where you can find some cute souvenirs. You can eat at their restaurant, and if you decide to go to their concert and stay the night, there are some really good B&B’s around the area.

3. Cooper Winery. This is one of the oldest wineries in Amador County, with a fantastic selection of wine. In fact, we even did a wine tasting straight from the barrel there once. The people are great as well—they are knowledgeable, cool, and down to earth.

4. Cadre Winery. The whole winery is beautiful and features gorgeous oak trees shading the entire back area. They own a little restaurant food truck on site and host concerts to bring some entertainment.

While wine tasting is a major attraction, Amador Wine Country also offers tons of other activities, like concerts and events. Throughout the seasons, a lot of wineries host concerts and festivals, like the most celebrated: The Big Crush Harvest Event. This is a three-day event where you can opt to buy a ticket for one, two, or three days.

If you’re looking for a great place to celebrate special occasions, there are a lot of options for events like weddings, anniversaries, etc. Not to mention the Airbnbs and hotels. So, what are you waiting for? Plan your getaway trip to Sacramento and enjoy a couple of relaxing days. If you have any questions, feel free to call me or send me an email. I’d be happy to help!
